Incoming Freshman Scholarships
Incoming freshman scholarships are available to high school seniors who are admitted to the College of Liberal Arts. January 15, 2013 is the priority application deadline for the 2013-2014 Application for the College of Liberal Arts Freshman Scholarships. Early application is strongly encouraged. Applications completed after January 15, 2013 are considered on a funds-available basis only. To apply online, complete the 2013-2014 Application for College of Liberal Arts Freshman Scholarships at https://scholarships.cla.umn.edu/. Students who wish to be considered for need-based awards should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is found online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. The FAFSA application should be submitted at your earliest convenience, but no later than March 1, 2013.Collegiate Scholarships
Students completing the Application for College of Liberal Arts Freshman Student Scholarships are automatically considered for all of the following awards for which they are eligible.The Agnes T. Nelson Scholarship provides $2,500 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in the School of Music. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Alice, Thomas, & Terence Kilburn Scholarship
The Alice, Thomas, & Terence Kilburn Scholarship provides $6,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in theatre arts. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Anna & John Allen/Waller Scholarships
The Anna & John Allen/Waller Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students from Minnesota who have a rural or farming background. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Betty Borman Freshman Merit Scholarship
The Betty Borman Freshman Merit Scholarship provides $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Betty L. & Sidney L. Brown, and Shelley Brown Brundage Endowed Scholarship
The Betty L. & Sidney L. Brown, and Shelley Brown Brundage Endowed Scholarship provides $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Beverly & Richard Fink Scholarship
The Beverly & Richard Fink Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Charles & Myrtle Stroud Scholarship
The Charles & Myrtle Stroud Scholarship provides up to $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Chester E. & Marion D. Groth Band - Music Scholarship II
The Chester E. & Marion D. Groth Band - Music Scholarship provides $6,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in the School of Music. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Christian J. Gislason Scholarship
The Christian J. Gislason Scholarship provides $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students studying Iceland, Icelandic cultures, and related areas. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
CLA 135th Anniversary Scholarship
The CLA 135th Anniversary Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
CLA Alumni Scholarship
The CLA Alumni Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
CLA Dean's Scholar - College in the Schools German Award
The CLA Dean's Scholar - College in the Schools German Award provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students who are previous participants in the College in the Schools (CIS) German program and who plan to major in German are considered based on high school performance, test scores, indicated financial need, and teacher recommendation. One of the requirements for keeping the award for the full four years is declaring and remaining a German major in CLA.
Cleo Van Camp Bordwell & Frederick G. Bordwell Endowed Scholarship
The Cleo Van Camp Bordwell & Frederick G. Bordwell Scholarship provides $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a BFA degree in theatre arts. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Dale Benner Harris Scholarship
The Dale Benner Harris Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Dale Schatzlein Dance Scholarship
The Dale Schatzlein Dance Scholarship provides $8,500 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in dance or art. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Daniel & Joyce Wascoe Scholarship
The Daniel & Joyce Wascoe Scholarship provides $2,500 for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students in the University Honors Program pursuing a degree in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Students are considered based on academic promise and financial need.
Donald C. & Mary J. Savelkoul Scholarship
The Donald C. & Mary J. Savelkoul Scholarship provides $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in the School of Music. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Donald N. Ferguson Scholarship
The Donald N. Ferguson Scholarship provides $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in the School of Music. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Egan-Lawless Family Scholarship
The Egan-Lawless Family Scholarship provides $2,500 per year for up to four (4) years. Students majoring in economics are considered based on high school performance, outstanding leadership achievements, unique work or service experience, first generation to attend college, and indicated financial need.
Emily Anne Tuttle Scholarship
The Emily Anne Tuttle Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a BFA degree in theatre arts. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Emma Carter Freeman Scholarship Fund
The Emma Carter Freeman Scholarship Fund provides $2,500 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Esther Johnson History Day Mentor Scholarship Fund
The Esther Johnson History Day Mentor Scholarship Fund provides $2,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference will be given to students who attended Minneapolis Public Schools, and who participated in the University of Minnesota's History Day. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Etta Halpern Scholarship
The Etta Halpern Scholarship provides $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students in the Theatre Arts BFA Actor program. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Evonne Lindberg Scholarship
The Evonne Lindberg Scholarship provides $2,500 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference will be given to students who pursue a degree in the Department of Art. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Freda Jordan Scholarship
The Freda Jordan Scholarship provides $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students from Redwood County, MN. Students are considered based on high school performance, test scores, leadership and extracurricular involvement, and indicated financial need.
Frederick & Reeselynn Warburton Scholarship
The Frederick & Reeselynn Warburton Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Goldman Sachs - Eiger Family Scholarship
The Goldman Sachs - Eiger Family Scholarship provides $3,000 for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Guthrie Theater Board of Directors Scholarship
The Guthrie Theater Board of Directors Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference will be given to students in the Theatre Arts BFA Actor program. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Hannah Kellogg Dowell Scholarship
The Hannah Kellogg Dowell Scholarship provides $4,000 for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.

The Harold E. & Louise A. Renquist Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Harriet Stoll Memorial Scholarship
The Harriet Stoll Memorial Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Harriet Thwing Holden Undergraduate Scholarship
The Harriet Thwing Holden Undergraduate Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to Minnesota residents. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Harrington CLA Scholarship
The Harrington CLA Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in the Department of German, Scandinavian, & Dutch. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Hegman Scholarship Award in Citizenship
The Hegman Scholarship Award in Citizenship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students majoring in Political Science are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.

The Joan Calof Scholarship Fund provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in Global Studies and/or a second language. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.

Judy Burton Awards provide $2,000 per year for up to four(4) years. Students admitted to the University Honors Program are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Justin & Marguerite O'Connell Scholarship Fund
The Justin & Marguerite O'Connell Scholarship Fund provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in English. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Kathryn Sederberg Scholarship
The Kathryn Sederberg Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.

The L. Steven & Mary Goldstein Scholarship Fund provides $4,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Louis P. & Mary Ann Novak Fund Scholarship
The Louis P. & Mary Ann Novak Fund Scholarship provides $4,000 for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to first-generation college students, or students with an interest in Central European studies - in particular Croatian or Hungarian studies - or students majoring in History. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Marge Maddux Scholarship
The Marge Maddux Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in dance. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Maureen Lowe Scholarship
The Maureen Lowe Scholarship provides $2,500 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in modern European history and/or the humanities. Students will be considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.
Paul & David Carlson Scholarship

Richard & Juanita Bolland Luis CLA Scholarship
The Richard & Jaunita Bolland Luis CLA Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Preference is given to exceptional students with an interest in the social sciences. Students are considered based on academic promise and indicated financial need.

Students are considered based on academic achievement, contributions to society as demonstrated by leadership and service activities, acceptance into the University Honors Program, and indicated financial need.
