Incoming Freshman Scholarships

Incoming freshman scholarships are available to high school seniors who are admitted to the College of Liberal Arts. January 15, 2010 is the priority application deadline for the 2010-2011 Application for College of Liberal Arts Freshman Scholarships. Early application is strongly encouraged. Applications that are postmarked or become complete after January 15, 2010 are considered on a funds-available basis. To apply online, complete the 2010-2011 Application for College of Liberal Arts Freshman Scholarships at https://scholarships.cla.umn.edu/.

Collegiate Scholarships

Students completing the Application for College of Liberal Arts Freshman Scholarships are automatically considered for all of the following awards for which they are eligible.

Anna and John Allen/Waller Scholarships
The Anna and John Allen/Waller Scholarships provide $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on high school performance, test scores, leadership and extracurricular involvement, a rural or farming background, and indicated financial need.

Arle and Billy Haeberle Scholarship - Theatre Arts B.A.
The Arle and Billy Haeberle Scholarship for a Theatre Arts B.A. provides $6,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on high school performance, leadership and extracurricular involvement, indicated financial need, and exceptional promise in Theatre Arts.

Betty Borman Freshman Merit Scholarship
The Betty Borman Freshman Merit Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on high school performance, test scores, and indicated financial need.

Christian J. Gislason Scholarship
The Christian J. Gislason Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on high school performance, test scores, and indicated financial need. Preference will be given to students studying Iceland, Icelandic cultures, and related areas.

CLA 135th Anniversary Scholarship
The CLA 135th Anniversary Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on high school performance, test scores, and indicated financial need.

CLA Dean's Scholar - College in the Schools German Award
The CLA Dean's Scholar - College in the Schools German Award provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students who are previous participants in the College in the Schools (CIS) German program and who plan to major in German are considered based on high school performance, test scores, indicated financial need, and teacher recommendation.

CLA Dean's Scholar Award
The CLA Dean's Scholar Award provides up to $5,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Applicants are considered based on high school performance, test scores, leadership and extracurricular involvement, and indicated financial need.

Hegman Scholarship Award in Citizenship
The Hegman Scholarship Award in Citizenship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students majoring in Political Science are considered based on high school performance, test scores, leadership and extracurricular activities, and indicated financial need.

Jean Cameron and Robert Linde/Waller Scholarship
The Jean Cameron and Robert Linde/Waller Scholarship provides $4,500 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on high school performance, test scores, and indicated financial need. Preference will be given to a first generation college student.

John K. and Elsie Lampert Fesler/Waller Awards
John K. and Elsie Lampert Fesler/Waller Awards provide $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on high school performance, test scores, leadership and extracurricular involvement, and indicated financial need.

Judy Burton Awards
Judy Burton Awards provide $2,000 per year for up to two (2) years. Students admitted to the University Honors Program are considered based on high school performance, test scores, leadership and extracurricular involvement, and indicated financial need.

Lippincott Scholarship for Dance
The Lippincott Scholarship for Dance provides $5,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students must audition for and be admitted to the Dance program. High school performance and indicated financial need will be taken into consideration.

Medtronic Technical Communication Scholarship
The Medtronic Technical Communication Scholarship provides $2,000 per year for up to four (4) years for students pursuing a Scientific and Technical Communication major. Requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 and an interview. Members of underrepresented ethnic or racial minorities are encouraged to apply. Thomas B. and Elizabeth Merner Scholarship
The Thomas B. and Elizabeth Merner Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on high school performance, test scores, leadership and extracurricular activities, and indicated financial need.

William Kelty Scholarship
The William Kelty Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for up to four (4) years. Students are considered based on high school performance, test scores, and indicated financial need.
